James Edward Elliott, Jr., fondly known as “Jamie,” passed away Monday, February 3, 2020, at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was born Thursday, November 28, 1963, in Pawhuska, Okla. to James Edward Elliott, Sr. and Cleo Marie (Robertson) Abbott.  His Cherokee ancestry included his maternal grandfather, Robert Wesley Robertson, Sr. and his maternal great-grandfather, Howard L. Robertson.  He was also of Irish and Dutch descent.

Most of Jamie’s childhood days were spent growing up at the Westview Boy’s Home in Hollis, Okla. He looked forward to attending school, going to church, and participating in local activities.  Jamie had a passion for the cowboy lifestyle, and even rode bulls in High School.  He had an unusual way with horses and could break almost any horse.  He was proud to be a 1982 graduate of Arnett High School.

Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the US Army.  He completed basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia before “jumping into” the 82nd Airborne Division.  PFC Elliott was injured during a training exercise which resulted in him being honorably discharged.

After serving his country, he worked at numerous jobs, including many years as a dedicated truck driver, tireless oil field worker, and his favorite, carpentry work.  He was a skilled journeyman who excelled in quality craftsmanship.

A huge OU fan and avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed watching sports, shooting guns, fishing, golfing, playing pool, and pitching horse shoes. He loved music, especially singing and two-stepping on the dance floor.

At the time of his passing, Jamie resided in Ralston, Okla. where he was a member of the American Legion.  A witty storyteller of tall tales, he also was a prankster, and was forever telling jokes.  A family guy with a caring heart of gold ⎯ “Papa Jay” to his grandbabies who were the pride and joy of his life.

Jamie will be lovingly remembered by his son Kyle (Samantha) Elliott and his daughter Amber Elliott all of Arkansas; mother Cleo Abbott and stepdad Don; brothers Robbie Chitwood, Tony Chitwood and Mike Chitwood; sisters Tonya (Victor) Valencia and Linda Parker; two grandchildren Vada Lou Elliott and Savannah Elliott.  Forever remembered by close friends Darrell Looney and Deanna McConnell; countless nieces, nephews and other dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father James E. Elliott, Sr. and one brother Tommy Chitwood.

Cremation is taking place under the care of Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home in Fairfax.  A gathering honoring and remembering the life of Jamie Elliott is being planned by his loved ones and will be held later (TBA) in Ralston.

The family requests donations in James memory be given to Tipton Children’s Home, American Legion Post-Ralston, or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
