Ronald Smith

July 6, 1961 — October 21, 2021

Fairfax

Ronald Ray Smith, longtime Fairfax resident, entered the gates of his heavenly home on Thursday, October 21, 2021 in the OU Health University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. He was 60 years young.
Ronnie was born July 6, 1961 in Pawhuska, Ok to Margaret Louise (Moon) and J.C. Smith. He was one of eight children born to his parents. Growing up in the Nelagoney area, he attended Pawhuska schools. Fondly known as “Carpet” by his high school classmates, he graduated a proud Huskie in 1979. Singing in choir, playing the guitar and even a Spanish 12 string guitar, participating in sports, and working hard alongside his father in farming were some of many time investments in his youth. He learned how to hunt and fish as a child, and spent many a day at Bird Creek and around the Hula Lake area. Following high school, Ronnie received a scholarship to play basketball at Cowley College but was injured and had to give up his college career early and entered the oil field. He spent many a day in the summers at Blue Stem Lake with family and friends in the 80s and 90s.
He soon met and married his first wife, Alauna, in 1982. To this union, two children were born, April and Anthony. Alauna had a son from a previous relationship, Nicholas, who Ronnie lovingly adopted as his own. Alauna and Ronnie were married for 13 years.
In 1996, he married Robin (Stevens) Smith in Sedan, Kansas. This blessed union added step-children and another child: Darrell, David, Bo, and Elaine. The couple were blessed to raise several other boys during their 25 years of marriage.
Ronnie kept busy thru the years working & serving in a number of roles. He followed in his father’s footsteps in the oil field industry. Ronnie was the youngest pulling unit operator in the area. He also drove tank trucks, checked salt water tanks and leases across Oklahoma. He toured with his country/rock band as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in his 20s. He had many business ventures that he owned and operated, including a hot oil & well service in Ponca City, a retail store in Fairfax, and Smith’s Lawn Service that provided service in Fairfax and surrounding towns. Ronnie served Fairfax as Mayor for a season in his life, working long hours to make a positive impact and improvements as he rolled up his sleeves for the town. He continued to play music and sing throughout the years for churches, weddings, funerals, community events, and ministries. One of his favorites was John 3:16 Mission in Tulsa, Ok. More recently, he worked on the Freeman Ranch. Ronnie served for many years as the Worship Leader at New Hope Christian Church in Fairfax, as well as the Pastor there since 2016 in the last season of his life.
His interests throughout the years of his life here on earth included participating and watching all sports, fishing and hunting, skiing and boating at Bluestem, darts and pool, golfing, mechanic work, cooking/grilling, big dinner get-togethers and community events, landscaping, singing and songwriting, playing guitar, joking, ranching, continually studying God’s word and spending time with his family and friends.
Ronnie loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He had a huge heart and would not hesitate to lend a hand to those in need. As a Pastor, he would remind you after praying for you, “Remember, I love you and so does Jesus.”
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Robin of the home; daughter April Metzler; sons Anthony Smith and Bo Gregory of Fairfax, also Nicholas Smith, Darrell Gregory, and David Gregory of Shidler; daughter Elaine Smith of Fairfax; sisters Cindy Gibbons and Teresa Smith; a loving congregation, plus numerous other family, friends, and countless acquaintances because he never met a stranger.
Ronnie joins in heaven his parents, J.C. & Margaret, and his siblings: Delores, Sharon, Kenneth, Stacy, and Joyce.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 7th at the Woodland High School auditorium, 100 N 6th Street, Fairfax, Ok.

Ronnie lived his life the best way he knew how, Full-throttle and whole-hearted. Somehow he always managed to “find another gear” or “kick it into gear”, as he’d say. From the moment he gave his heart to the Lord, the love of God shined through to others as a friend that would pray with you and for you and do whatever he could to help you. We know he’s home with Jesus and singing his heart out in the choir of The Father’s house by the Spirit. To God be the glory through Ronnie’s life as he would have wanted.
