Fairfax

Johnnie Morris Summy, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 08, 2019.  He was born on November 24, 1933, west of Ralston Oklahoma, the fourth child of five children to Morris Webb Summy and Lucie Marie (McCollough) Summy. He attended school thru the eighth grade at a little country school near his home, being taught by his mother, who was the teacher of the Ralston School District.  Then, he attended Ralston High School, graduating in 1951.
Soon thereafter he joined the U.S. Navy, serving 3 ½ years as a signal man while stationed on the U.S.S. Renville APA 227.  He received an honorable discharge on September 18, 1954.  After returning home he attended OSU Tech School in Okmulgee for two years.  He settled in the Ralston-Fairfax community and eventually met and married the former Linda Chitwood and to this union two wonderful children were born.
He owned and operated Summy’s Body Shop & Wrecker Service and also Summy’s Auto Parts for several years before retiring in 1999.  John had strong moral values and elements of his character showed up in his ever punctual, always dependable, generous and unquestionable responsible way of life.  He was a hardworking man who loved the challenge of fixing anything that was broken.  John was instrumental in securing and restoring the Old Tallchief Theater sign and marquee that hangs proudly on Main Street today.  His passion was classic antique cars and NHRA drag racing.  He also loved to fish and was an avid reader of Oklahoma History and Louie L’Amour Westerns.  Above all – he – was – a wonderful husband & father and the best Poppy ever to his three grandchildren.
John was a long-time member of the First Osage Baptist Church; Grayhorse Masonic Lodge #124, a 32nd degree Mason; belonged to the VFW and American Legion.  In past years, he was a member of the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Fairfax Fire Chief for 18 ½ years and a member of the board for the Fairfax Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years; son Matthew Summy of Fairfax; daughter Kandi and son-in-law Jimmy Allen; one grandson Joby Ross Allen; two granddaughters,  Alexis Allen and Jenna Allen all of Alva; two sisters, Billie Jean Clodfelter of Scottsdale, Ariz., Barbara Ann Cody and brother-in-law Claude Cody of Tuttle, Okla.; also, his brother-in-law and wife, Larry and Jackie Chitwood of Ponca City; sister-in-law and husband, Judy and Ron Duggins of Tulsa; brother-in-law and wife, Bill and Christina Chitwood of San Antonio, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews.
