Bobby Joe Hughes, husband, father and grandfather, passed from this life on February 17, 2019 at the age of 92 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Bob was born December 10, 1926 in Slick, Okla., to W. A. and Fannie (Campbell) Hughes.

Bob served in the US Navy from 1944 - 1946. He served as a Fireman Second Class upon the USS Nashville and the USS Chandeleur. He was awarded the WWII Medal of Victory, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Campaign Ribbon, and American Campaign Medal. He was proud to serve the country he loved and was honorably discharged on August 20, 1946.

On February 16, 1947 Bob and Maxine Dennis were married in Burbank, Okla. They had just celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Bob loved his family and was very proud of each of them.

Bob worked in the oil field industry all of his life. Starting as a rough-neck on drilling rigs he worked his way up to driller and then tool pusher and then served many years as Company Man before he retired.

Upon retirement Bob enjoyed wood-working in his shop. Also, he and Maxine spent over 20 years traveling to Branson and South Texas in their 5th-wheel, along with their dog Jake. They had made many friendships traveling and Bob spent time on the phone keeping up with them throughout the last few years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Vernon, Carl, Gene, Bill, and Don. One great-grandson Holden Peckenpaugh.

Today he is survived by his wife Maxine. His son, Carl Hughes and wife Sherry. Two daughters, Shirley Peckenpaugh and husband Loris, Vickie Bump and husband Steve. Six grandchildren, Russell Hughes and wife Kristie, Sharla Van Winkle and husband Cal, Shelly Bump and husband Scott Baker, Lee Peckenpaugh and wife Mary, Stacy Womack and husband Jimmy, Tracy Nesselrode and husband Robert, and 9 great-grandchildren. One brother Jim Hughes, 2 sisters, Judy McKee and Betty Jackson, and one sister-in-law Patricia Tadlock.
