Wayne Mitchell Jr

Wayne C. Mitchell Jr., longtime resident of the Big Bend community died on Thursday, August 11, 2016. He was 81 years of age.

Born on July 16, 1935 in Odessa Texas he was the only child of Wayne Mitchell Sr. and Pearl (Duncan) Mitchell. The family returned to the Big Bend area in 1946.

Wayne married the love of his life, Frances Eloise (Betts) on April 12, 1952 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The same year, the couple made their first home in the Big Bend community where Wayne continued his education, graduating from Ralston High school in 1953.

Wayne has spent the last 64 years working the farm and caring for his horses and cattle. He enjoyed his "John Deere" tractor and kept it many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairfax and Masonic Lodge Grayhorse 124.

He is survived by two sons: Wayne Ray Mitchell of Burbank, OK and Mike Mitchell and wife Kim of Perkins, OK; four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Eloise in 2014.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Fairfax Cemetery with Rev. George Weston presiding. Interment will follow at the cemetery under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.
