Samuel Wootan

August 15, 1954 — January 15, 2018

Samuel Michael Wootan, 63, life-long Fairfax resident and rancher, passed peacefully at his home in Little Chief north of Fairfax, Oklahoma on Monday, January 15, 2018.
Samuel was born to Frank Earnest and Frieda (Barnett) Wootan on August 15, 1954 in Fairfax. Growing up he was best known as "Sam" and attended schools at Fairfax, graduating with the Red Devil class of 1972. Following graduation, he joined the Army and served during the Vietnam Era in Germany.
After returning home, Sam worked in the oilfields around the Fairfax area and with Halliburton for several years. He and Joan (Mashburn) were married on August 6, 1994 in Fairfax and made their home here. They worked their ranch along beside each other raising Black Angus cattle and carrying for other animals as well.
Sam was a member of the local VFW and a volunteer fireman with the Little Chief Fire Department. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and coyote hunting with his greyhounds. He had several good companion dogs through the years and would often be seen around town with two or three riding along with him in his truck. He also loved bulldozers!
Sam leaves behind his loving wife, Joan of the home; children, Kristin Lockett of Norman, Jess Burris III and wife Samantha of Fairfax, Brad Burris of Ponca City and Brooke Burris of Fairfax. Grandchildren, Troy Jones of Norman and Riley Burris of Fairfax; brother Frank Wootan of Fairfax; two aunts Betty Argo of Nowata and Dolores Barnett of Fairfax; two nephews Nolan Wootan and Franklin Wootan both of Fairfax. Special friend and ranch worker, Steve Keeton of Maramec as well as man's best friends, Bozo, Nessie and Pixie of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lela Belle (Wootan) Hurst and two of his special pets, Gonzo and Charlie.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 18, at the Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jay Clapp officiating. Burial will follow in a private cemetery under the direction of Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax, Oklahoma.
Casket bearers are Trey Burris, Brad Burris, Steve Keeton, Colt Donelson, Shawn Northcutt and Harley Smith.
He was loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and many friends.
