Ronald Smith

November 14, 1926 — December 19, 2018

Pawnee

Ronald L Smith transitioned from his home in Pawnee to his heavenly home welcomed by his loving wife, Nelda, on Wednesday evening, December 19, 2018 at the age of 92.

The son and only child of Herman Jesse and Gladys S. (Gwinn) Smith, he was born on November 14, 1926 in Fairfax, Oklahoma. Ron, as he became known to most, was raised in Fairfax and attended Fairfax Public Schools.

Following his school years, he entered into active service with the US Army. Ron had wanted to join the Navy so after serving two years in the army he eagerly enlisted in the US Navy, where he served six more years.

He met the love of his life, Nelda Fay Hutchinson and on April 4, 1971 they were united in holy matrimony. The couple soon made their home in the Ralston community and to this union was born a son, Wyatt Smith. He was the apple of his daddy's eye.

Ronald worked as a carpenter for many years, helping his friend Donald Brown at times. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He particularly enjoyed shooting his black powder rifles and introduced his love of muzzle loading to his son and nephews. He fished local ponds and lakes for many species of fish but catfish were his favorite. He also trapped coons and other animals. His family jokingly referred to him as an "old mule skinner."

While a member of the Assembly of God Church in Fairfax, he and Nelda served the church well teaching Sunday School, helping make and sell meat pies, and Ron also served as a deacon. The couple had been married 40 years at Nelda's passing in 2011.

Ron is survived by his son, Wyatt and wife, Krystal Smith, and his grandson, Austin Smith.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Nelda; his parents; and two sisters.

Cremation has been selected without formal services at this time.
