Robert Reed

October 20, 1933 — October 11, 2015

Robert Lee Reed, resident of rural Fairfax, passed Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Fairfax Manor Nursing Home. He was 81 years of age.

Mr. Reed was born October 20, 1933 at Pawnee, Oklahoma, the son of James Lesley Reed and Amanda (Bell) Reed. His step-mother Kate Reed helped raise him. He attended the Grayhorse School where he graduated and had perfect attendance for all 12 years. He then attended three years at Oklahoma Baptist University where he graduated.

He was married to Barbara Baird in 1955. He was employed many years with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a contract laborer digging trenches for their phone lines. Robert was known for his meticulous work while employed with the phone company. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He very much enjoyed writing editorials for various newspapers that included Fairfax, Shidler, Pawhuska and numerous other newspapers. His editorials were titled Farmer Bob's Report. He also enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his five children, Jody Markus and husband Paul, of Fairfax, Robyn Roach and husband John, of Ralston, Mary Reed of Dodge City, Kansas, Douglas Reed and wife Aliyse, of Pawhuska, and Roger Ray Reed and wife Julian, of Mountain Home, Arkansas; grandchildren Desara Clark, Danielle Harris, Johnnie Roach, Dustin Roach, Donnie Roach, Jessica Page, Lillian Valentine, Kyla Minix, Barbara Dodson, Paul Markus, Vance Markus, Ricki Reed and Robert Reed; numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and many many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two grandchildren, Mary Reed and Joshua Reed; a half-brother, Billy Lee Kidd.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Koger Family Cemetery, located 10 miles WNW of Fairfax on the Ponca City shortcut. John Holt will preside over the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home in Fairfax.
