Oleta Plummer

September 3, 1918 — June 15, 2014

Oleta Mae Jones Plummer, longtime Fairfax resident, was born September 3, 1918 in Waldon, Grady County, Oklahoma to Jesse B. and Mattie Lee Harris Jones. She passed in Fairfax on June 15, 2014 at the age of 95. Oleta graduated from Enterprise Elementary and Mound Valley High School in Osage County. Her first job was as a Music Librarian and Teachers Aide for Newkirk High School.

Oleta married Ted Plummer, December 3, 1940 in Pawnee by the minister of the Christian Church and they were married for 67 years until Teds passing August 8, 2008. They had two sons, James 1941 and Joe 1943. During WWII, the family moved to Socorro, NM for two years, returning to the Middle Enterprise community in 1947.

Oleta helped with the family farming a variety of crops and cattle. She also worked at Morris Trims Variety Store and Mrs. Gravitts Dress Shop 12 years in Hominy and was employed for the National Agricultural Census. Following a move to Fairfax, Oleta worked 18 years at the True Value Hardware Store.

Oleta served her community in numerous ways. She helped found the SMF Club Sunny Slope, Middle Enterprise, Sorghum Ford to make bandages for injured soldiers in WWII. As time passed and people moved away, the group came to be called the Fun Club. The Fun Club remains active today with Oleta being the last original member. In 1973, Oleta was appointed to the Osage Mental Health Association and was an active member of the Middle Enterprise chapter of the Home Demonstration Club. She also served as a 4H Club leader, Sunday school teacher, and served on the food committee at Osage First Baptist Church, Fairfax.

Though small in stature, Oleta was a physically and mentally strong woman with an unwavering Christian faith. She will be greatly missed by friends and family as well as her church family at First Osage Baptist Church in Fairfax.

The family is grateful for the caring staff at Fairfax Manor and for Dr. Graham, Oletas physician for many years. The community of friends and church members will always be remembered for their kindness and generosity during her latest illness.

Survivors include sons: James and wife Louvinia, of Logan, KS Joe and wife, Karen of Paso Robles, CA six grandchildren Joe Plummer and wife, Sherry of OKC, Oklahoma, Rhonda and Shannon Plummer of Logan, KS, Kathleen Plummer of Norton, KS., David Plummer wife, Fawne of Carrollton, TX, Jonathan Plummer wife, Jean, of Eugene, Oregon, and four Great Grand Children. Oleta was the last of four siblings Brothers: RC Kindred B. Jones, Sisters: Imogine Robinett Winnie Pace plus numerous nieces and nephews to whom Oleta was very close.

Her body will lay in state from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Osage Baptist Church, Fairfax. The casket will be closed at the service.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Osage First Baptist Church, Fairfax. Interment will follow in the Ralston Riverside Cemetery under the direction of the HunsakerWooten Funeral Home.

Casket bearers are grandsons and great grandsons, Joe Plummer, Jonathan Plummer, David Plummer, Gage LeRoux, Bodey LeRoux and Dillon McConney. Honorary casket bearers are Wayne Wilson, Don Wilson, Dale Brewer and Wayne Scheffel.
