Nadine Crabtree

January 6, 1935 — March 1, 2018

Nadine Chambers Crabtree was born January 6, 1935 in Ralston, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Agie Burl and Mary McKinney Chambers. Nadine's early years were spent around the Pawnee area. She attended Lone Jack and Pawnee schools, graduating from Pawnee High School in 1953.
In the early 1950's she met a handsome young farmer from The Big Bend area. They started dating not long before he became a soldier for the U.S. Army serving in Korea. After his discharge she and Billy Crabtree were married on December 24, 1955 and were married for 57 years until his death on April 4, 2013.
The couple made their first home in Pawhuska, where she worked as a telephone operator. Later they moved to the Fairfax area as Bill continued to be engaged in farming and ranching. Nadine was a very good seamstress and worked for Munsingwear in Pawnee, OK. Nadine was an excellent cook and served many delicious meals, pies and cobblers to her family. She mainly will be remembered as the owner of the Fairfax Tastee Freeze. From 1979-1989 she and Bill ran the Tastee Freeze business serving and feeding the citizens of Fairfax and many surrounding areas, providing employment for numerous young people, most time being the first job they ever had. A former employee once stated that not only did Nadine teach them how to cook and clean, she also taught them a great work ethic. Not long after selling their business, she went to work for Wal-Mart in Ponca City, OK. She worked in the clothing department and answered the phones for over 20 years before retiring at age 78. Nadine was a very hard worker and did so her whole life.
Nadine enjoyed growing flowers in her flower beds, sewing, and cooking for her family. She adored her children and grandchildren, who fondly referred to her as Grandma Na.
With family by her side, Nadine passed peacefully on March 1, 2018 at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. She is survived by her son David Crabtree and wife Shella of the Big Bend, daughter Karen Smith and husband Dean of Perry, OK, grandchildren D.C. Crabtree and wife Cara of Webb City, OK, Scott Crabtree and wife Jordan of Pawnee, OK, Dylan Crabtree and Breonna Lujan of Ralston, OK, Haley, Ryan, and Logan Smith of Perry, OK, great grandchildren Harli Jane, David Calvin, Kendyl Lynn, and Colby Cruz Crabtree, Sister Wanda Stiles and husband Jerry of Richardson, TX, Brother Ray Chambers and wife Mary of Crosby, TX, Brother Bob Chambers and wife Carole of Humble, TX, Sister in law Jo Ruth Chambers of Deer Park, TX, Brother in law Donald Crabtree and wife Mary Lou, Sisters in law Juanita Logsdon and Edith Crabtree all of Fairfax, special friend Margaret Kline of Pawnee and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Brothers JD Gant, William Chambers, and John Chambers, daughter Theda Jan Crabtree, and husband Bill Crabtree.
Services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Assembly of God Church in Fairfax with Jay Clapp officiating and family dinner being served at 12:00pm.
