We gather with heavy hearts to honor and remember the life of Kimberly Lyn McKinney Cook, who passed away on January 19, 2026. Kimberly was born on March 31, 1995, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was a lifelong resident of Fairfax, a place she proudly called home.
From an early age, Kimberly stood out for her determination, kindness, and drive. She attended Woodland Public Schools, where she excelled both academically and athletically. A gifted student, she graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 2013. She was also deeply involved in sports, playing softball, basketball, and golf—activities that reflected her competitive spirit, teamwork, and love for being active.
Kimberly continued her education at Northern Oklahoma College, then went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern Oklahoma State University alongside her sister, Taylor. Nursing was more than a career for Kimberly—it was a calling. After becoming a nurse, she served her community through her work at Perry Hospital, Fairfax Hospital, and in home health, where she was deeply loved by and connected to her patients and their families.
While Kimberly was proud of her accomplishments, her greatest joy and purpose in life was her family. She poured her heart into being a devoted wife to her husband, Caleb, and a loving, present mother to her sons, Colt, Ruger, Remington, and Barrett. Even after being diagnosed with cancer in 2022, Kimberly dedicated her life to making sure she was always there for them—attending class parties, going on field trips, cheering from the sidelines, coaching their sports, and volunteering whenever needed. If her children needed something, Kimberly was always there.
At home, Kimberly expressed her love in countless ways, especially through cooking and baking, something she truly loved. One of her sons’ favorite meals—chicken and noodles—became more than just a dish; it was comfort, home, and mom’s love in a bowl. She also delighted in creating character cakes for her sons’ and nieces’ birthdays, spending hours perfecting every detail so their faces would light up when they saw them. Those cakes were not just desserts—they were memories made with love, creativity, and joy.
Kimberly is survived by her loving husband Caleb Cook; her sons Colt, Ruger, and Remington; her parents Darren and Teddi McKinney; her sister Taylor Hutchison and her husband Jack, and their children Langston, Saige, Everly, Ryan, Harlee, Kirsten, Jackson, Addy, and Ashton; her sister-in-law Cody Kennedy and her husband Caleb, and their sons Joby and wife Haley and sons Talen and Rhett, Jake and partner Kirsten and daughter Zoey, DK and partner Whitney and Goob; her grandparents Doyle and Wanda Heath; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her precious son, Barrett Shelby Cook, who passed on December 3, 2021. While that loss shaped her life, Kimberly carried her love for Barrett with strength, grace, and unwavering faith. Her grandparents, Sammie Lou Poplin and Darrell McKinney, and her cousin, Garrett Gibson.
Kimberly will be remembered for her intelligence, her generosity, her fierce love for her family, and the way she showed up for others without ever asking for recognition. Her life was one of service, devotion, and deep love—a legacy that lives on in her children, her family, and everyone whose life she touched.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we are grateful for the time we had with Kimberly and the countless memories she leaves behind. Her love will continue to guide us, comfort us, and remind us what truly matters.
