John Schroeder, Sr.

John E. Schroeder, Sr., age 81, died January 26, 2015. John was born February 5, 1933 to Thomas F. Schroeder and Rose (Milano) Schroeder in New Orleans, Louisiana. John went into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1949. He served two terms in the Korean War.

He married his wife, Virginia Rice, of Fairfax, Oklahoma at the Marine Corps base at Parris Island, South Carolina on September 15, 1956. After his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1970, he worked eight years at the United States Postal Service in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and two years at The Corps of Engineers. The family moved to Enid, Oklahoma in 1981, and John worked at Vance Air Force Base as a T-37 jet engine mechanic until 2003, retiring to Wynona, Oklahoma. John and Virginia had four children: two sons, John Jr. and Glen T., two daughters, Victoria L. and Cynthia A. They were married for 58 ½ years.

John was preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers, Thomas F. Jr. and Sam; one sister, Irene and his daughter, Victoria L. Carter. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Wynona, Oklahoma; two sons, John Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Piedmont, Oklahoma and Glen and wife, Kelly, of Enid, Oklahoma; one daughter, Cynthia Thomas and husband, Chad of Enid, Oklahoma; and one sister, Margueritte White of Picayune, MS. John and Virginia have eight grandchildren: Brooke Torrey and husband, Brent, Jenna Rosine and husband, Kyle, Tiffany Harrold and husband, Justin, Christopher Carter, London Schroeder, Logan Schroeder, Lorien Schroeder, and Dusti Maurer and husband, Daniel; four great grandchildren, Keagan Carter, Kylen Thoma, Kamdyn Harrold and Dane Carter; along with two step great grandchildren, Alexis and Kaylee Harrold. John was loved by many nieces, nephews, and friends alike.

Services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Fairfax, Oklahoma. John's online guest book may be signed at www.hunsakerwootenfuneralhome.com.
