John Paul Martin, age 82, was called home on Monday, September 1, 2025 in Fairfax, Oklahoma. He was born on October 9, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas to Paul and Susie (Wade) Martin.
The family moved to Fairfax in 1944 where his dad Paul was owner of the Paul Martin Ice Plant. John was a proud graduate of the1961 Fairfax Red Devil Class. After graduation he attended college in Weatherford, Okla. where he met and married Angela Straube. The couple moved to Wichita in 1964, and John went to work for Steffens Dairy. He was involved in the installation of the company’s first computer. While in Wichita he became the father of a son, Paul Wade Martin born in 1966. In 1979 John and Paul moved back to Fairfax.
In Fairfax he met and married Ann Palmer in March 1981. Their blended family included their two children, Paul and Sylvia. To this union a daughter Molly was born. John, Ann, Sylvia and Molly have remained in Fairfax being actively involved in the community.
The family were active members of the First Christian Church where John served on the Church Board as a Deacon and Elder for several years. The family was also involved in the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce.
John was elected to the Fairfax Town board of Trustees during 1984 – 1987, serving as Mayor for two years. After 1987, realizing the need to computerize the towns system, he installed and maintained the billing, collections and payroll programs for the City of Fairfax. This led to the establishment of Martin and Associates computer company where he performed this service for various cities.
John is survived by his wife of 43 years Ann; his son Paul and wife Loree; his daughter Molly and husband Russell; grandchildren Josh Martin, Ashley and Doug Alejandro, Emma Buford, and Titan Staples, Rebecca and Zak Riff, Michelle and Conner Ellis plus bonus grandchildren Landunn, Preslee, and Bentley; great grandchildren Alaina, Sylvia, and Oliver. Sister-in-law Teresa Martin and her son MJ (Terri) Nash. Further survived by his beloved nieces and their families Chris (JG) Hiatt, and Emma, Lynn (Terry) Lane and their children Callie (Colby) Theurer, Colton Lane, and niece Cara Martin; plus, many wonderful friends and church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Susie Martin, brothers Steve Martin and Mike Martin, daughter Sylvia, and Clark & Cleo Palmer.
John’s wishes were to be cremated, and the family is fulfilling his wishes. A private burial will be held later in the Fairfax Cemetery.
