Cleveland, Oklahoma

Janet Faye Smith, a cherished educator, devoted mother, grandmother, and beloved member of her community, passed away on May 20, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on September 4, 1947, in Stillwell, Oklahoma, Janet’s life was marked by a profound kindness, exceptional generosity, and an enduring love for her family and faith.

Throughout her nearly forty-year career as an educator, Janet earned recognition for her dedication and excellence, being named Teacher of the Year twice and receiving the prestigious Teacher of Today award from the Masonic Lodge. Her commitment to nurturing young minds was matched only by her deep care for the people around her.

Janet’s personality radiated warmth and compassion. Known for her kindness, she was generous in every way and delighted in sharing moments of joy—whether through a comforting hug, a bright smile, or her infectious laugh that could light up any room. Her loving spirit was evident in her love for Jesus, which she joyfully expressed by singing at church services and graduations. The Terlton and Masham church families held a special place in her heart.

She treasured spending time with her family, which included her children and grandchildren, whom she deeply loved and cherished. Janet was particularly proud of being a mother and grandmother, roles she regarded as her greatest accomplishments alongside her remarkable contributions to education. Her loving nature extended to her beloved little dogs, including Ricky, and she found happiness traveling with her best friend of fifty years, Gayle Reynard. Together, they shared countless moments of friendship and adventure.

Janet’s hobbies reflected her generous spirit and joyful approach to life. She enjoyed singing, making shoeboxes filled with toys for children at Christmas through Samaritan’s Purse, collecting and displaying red, white, and blue items, attending church, and watching the Hallmark channel. Known amongst friends and family as someone who felt deeply—she cried whether happy or sad—Janet’s emotional openness was a testament to her profound empathy and love.

She is survived by her children Shonda Lynne Barnoski; her twins, Cheri Faye Jackson and Teri Kaye Smith; her twins, Mark Curtiss Smith and Matthew Benjamin Smith; her sister and brother-in-law, Benetta Deason and Dwayne Deason; her grandchildren; her great-grandchild; and her lifelong best friend, Gayle Reynard. Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Elizabeth (Lynn) Briley, and her father, Benjamin Franklin Briley Jr.

A burial service to honor Janet’s life will be held on May 27, 2026, 2:00PM, at Riverside Ralston, located at N3520 Road & E0360 Road in Ralston, Oklahoma.
