Herb Staples, longtime resident of Fairfax, passed Thursday evening, September 15, 2011 in the Fairfax Hospital with his family and friends by his side. He was 83 years of age.

Herb was born August 17, 1928 in Guthrie, Oklahoma, the son of John Israel and Maud Staples. He was a graduate of Braman High School and soon thereafter began work in the oil fields. He was married to LaVerna Mae Vaughn on February 3, 1951 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Herb proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his Army service he worked for Sinclair Oil Company and in 1970 began work for the Toomey and DP Oil Companies.

His enjoyments were his children, grandchildren and working. In earlier years Herb enjoyed hunting and fishing and had helped coach the Fairfax Womens Softball Team.

He is survived by his three children, Sharon Brumley and husband, John Wayne, Byron Staples and wife, Paula, and Clinton Staples and wife, Shelly, all of Fairfax 6 grandchildren, Colby Joe Brumley and wife, Kim, J.W. Brumley, Kayla Scott and husband, Matt, Krista Hutchison and husband, Jack, Renae Bruner and husband, Jimmie, and Russell Staples 7 great grandchildren, Reagan, Beau, Kirsten, Landunn, Olivia, Ryan, Preslee, and an 8th grandchild, Jackson, on the way 2 brothersinlaw, Eldon Vaughn and Olen Vaughn.

He was preceded in death by his parents his wife, LaVerna on April 11, 1977 one daughter, Karen Denise Staples on December 1, 1991 one brotherinlaw, Ernie Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Fairfax Christian Church with Ministers, George Weston and Russell Hughes presiding. Interment will be in the Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of the HunsakerWooten Funeral Home.

Casket bearers will be grandsons, Colby Joe Brumley, J.W. Brumley, Russell Staples, Matt Scott, Jack Hutchison and Jimmie Bruner. Honorary casket bearers will be Bob Paslay, W.K. Davis, L.M. Bud Trisdale, Denny Heath, John A. Long and George Pease III.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Womens Auxiliary, 154 North 4th Street, Fairfax, Oklahoma 74637.
