Hazel Moore, age 85, finished her earthly race on March 31, 2026, and entered eternity with her savior, Jesus Christ
Hazel Marie Knighten was born in Houston, Texas, on June 26, 1940, to Edgar and Nora Pauline (Garroutte) Knighten. She had two brothers, Eddie and John Wesley. Hazel attended school in Pawhuska and Fairfax before graduating from Broken Arrow High School in 1958.
On September 13, 1958, Hazel married the love of her life, Barnet Clyde Moore, Sr., in Broken Arrow. Their 67-year union was built on a foundation of devotion, and together they were blessed with two sons, Barney and Jim
Hazel was an exceptional homemaker and a deeply loving mother. Once her sons finished elementary school, she began a career at Peters Department Store in Blackwell, where her work ethic and leadership led to her promotion as store manager.
After moving to Fairfax in 1980, Hazel worked alongside Clyde for many years at their local hardware store. She was also a pillar of her community, dedicating her time to the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce and the Fairfax Historical Society. Her civic duty was a point of pride; she served as a polling clerk for the Osage County Election Board for over 20 years.
A woman of profound faith, Hazel was a longtime member of the Blackwell First Baptist Church, where she served as the Kay County WMU Director. Upon moving to Fairfax, she joined the First Osage Baptist Church. Her devotion to the Lord was evident in her service: she was a dedicated Sunday School and VBS teacher, a member of the choir, and a faithful attendee of Wednesday Night Bible Study.
Hazel’s greatest joy was found in the company of others. Whether she was cooking, fishing, camping, or engaging in a competitive game of cards or Scrabble, she made every moment count. She was a constant fixture at sporting events, cheering on her sons, grandchildren, and local students. Above all, she treasured every second spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Daisy
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Barnet Clyde Moore, Sr.; two sons, Barney (Donna) and Jim (Linda) Moore; five grandchildren, Garrett, Grant, James (Annie), Jarrett, and Cara; and her great-granddaughter, Sage. She also leaves behind her brother, Eddie Knighten, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Pauline Knighten, and her brother, John Wesley Knighten.
A memorial service to honor Hazel’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the First Osage Baptist Church with Pastor Kyle Rhodes officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Fairfax City Cemetery.
Cremation and arrangements are entrusted to Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.hunsakerwootenfuneralhome.com
Hazel’s life was a testament to service, faith, and unconditional love. She was a beautiful example of walking in faith and will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
