In 1962 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He became a cryptographer and was deployed with the 30650c TSSQ to Turkey on the Russian border during the Cold War.

He enjoyed hunting. He was a Mason and Shriner with the Grayhorse Lodge #124. He held every office and was very active with them.

He loved babies and they loved him. He was loved by all his nieces and nephews and will be dearly missed.
