Earnest Charles Hood

Earnest Charles Hood, longtime resident of Fairfax, passed January 8, 2016 at the Fairfax Manor Nursing Home at the age of 96.

Earnest was born June 7, 1919 in Havana, Arkansas, the son of Charles Hood and Donna Leach Hood. His schooling was in the Arkansas Schools. He married Mabel Collins in 1939 in Arkansas. Earnest served a tour of Duty in the U.S. Navy and he was discharged in Nov. of 1945. They moved to Fairfax in 1947 and Mabel preceded him in death in August of 1981. He then meet Barthoma Ratliff and they married in Oct. 1982 and she preceded him in death on Nov of 1993. Earnest meet and married Willis Cooper on July 4, 2004 and they continued to make their home in Faifax. Earnest enjoyed farming. He also owned and operated a gas station for a time then he was a Bus driver for the Fairfax schools for many years and during his retirement years he was very active in the Fairfax Senior Citizen Center delivering meals on wheels. He was also an active member of the Fairfax Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by His wife; Willis of the Home. 2 daughters: Ella Matthews of Edmond, OK and Teener Carlson of Tulsa, OK. 4 Step Children: Marty Linder Haub, Herman Linder, Charles Linder and LeRoy Lee Bradsher. Grandsons: Patrick Murray of Howe, TX Karl Hammond of Wetumka, OK and Brad Matthews of Aspen, CO, granddaughters; Manon Tillman of Fairfax, OK Tina Gordon of Okemah, OK and Michelle Matthews of Guthrie, OK; 7 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; 12 Step grandchildren and 20 step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Earnest was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 wives, 1 daughter; Judy Hammond; Sisters: Ina Collins, Zula Crabtree, Earsie Baird and Jewel Hood; Brother: Joe Hood.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Fairfax Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jay Clapp presiding. Interment will follow in the Fairfax City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.

Casket bearers are David Crabtree, Todd Crabtree, Chuck Crabtree, Johnny Shipman, Joshua Brotherton and Jim Ed Mashburn.
