Charles Cordwell

September 12, 1944 — March 29, 2017

Charles Robert "Bob" Cordwell, Jr., longtime resident of the Burbank community passed March 29, 2017. He was 72 years of age.

A time of "Gathering to Share Stories" will be held Thursday evening, April 6, 2017, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home in Fairfax, OK. Bring a memory to share with family and friends.

Bob was born on September 12, 1944 in Beloit, Kansas, the oldest son of Charles Robert and Betty E. (Coe) Cordwell,Sr. He grew up in Cawker City, KS and graduated high school there in 1962.

Following high school, he and Mary Francis were married. They had two sons, Jimmy and Bobby Joe. In the fall of 1962, Bob joined the Army, serving his country for three years.

He later moved to the Wichita area where he worked in the automotive field as a transmission mechanic. Bob then moved to Oklahoma, where he met and married Vicky Cordwell. In Ponca City, OK he continued to work as a mechanic with his good friend Bob Weatherly, for over forty years until his retirement.

In 1998, Bob met and married Sharon Godfrey, they made their home in Webb City, OK. Several years later, they moved to Burbank where Bob continued to live following Sharon's death on January 6, 2016.

In his early years, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing. The last few years, he spent his time managing the American Legion Post 333 in Ralston, OK where he was a member.

He is survived by a brother, Richard "Dick" (Sheryl) Cordwell of Berryton, KS; step-son, Michael Godfrey of Shidler, OK; two step-daughters, Donna Smith of Venus, TX and Chrissy Sanders of Pawnee, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon; and infant sister, Joyce Cordwell.

Bob's wishes were to be cremated and the family has fulfilled his wish. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Burbank City Cemetery under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 333, PO Box 33, Ralston OK or the charity of your choice.
