Charles Edward Cartwright, age 72, of Fairfax, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Charlie was born on October 21, 1953, in Claremore, Okla., to the late Gerald Gene Cartwright and Betty (Fanning) Davis. He grew up in Ripley, Okla., and graduated with the Class of 1971. He later attended NOC, where he studied political science.
Charlie dedicated much of his life to public service and law enforcement. Beginning his career in Oklahoma City in 1975 with Pinkerton Security, he went on to serve in many roles throughout the years, touching countless lives through his leadership, mentorship, and commitment to his community. Over the course of his career, Charlie proudly served as a security guard, police officer, EMT, patrol deputy, transport supervisor, assistant jail administrator, jail administrator, chief criminal investigator, chief deputy, lieutenant, captain, mayor, councilman, board member, and commissioner. His service included work with Pinkerton Security, the Fairfax Police Department, Fairfax EMS, the Kay County Sheriff’s Office, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Osage County Dist#3, Fairfax Hospital Board, and the City of Fairfax.
While Charlie was proud of his many accomplishments, the greatest joy of his life was his family. He married the love of his life, Terri “Moody” Cartwright, in 1984, and together they shared 41 years of marriage filled with love, loyalty, and laughter. Their bond remained strong from the day they met until his final moments. He often spoke of the people who helped shape him, especially his Aunt Sue Ping, her husband Wayne Ping, and his grandparents, Oliver and June Fanning, whose guidance and example stayed with him throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Terri Cartwright of the home; his children, Scott Cartwright of Fairfax, Torri Miller of Ponca City, Jennifer Cartwright of Stillwater, and Jessica Johnson of Seabrook, Texas; his 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Charlie also leaves behind his cherished brother, Dr. Bob and Sheri Cartwright of Dallas; his aunt Sue Ping of Claremore, whom he credited as a guiding influence in his life; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Gerald Cartwright and Betty Davis, his grandparents Olive and June Fanning; a granddaughter Savana Jade Loong. His uncles, Wayne Ping and Melvin Fanning, and his cousin Jamie Steiner.
Charlie will be remembered for his strength, sense of humor, dedication to helping others and deep love he had for his family and community. His impact on the lives around him will not be forgotten.
