Carrie Ellis, a longtime resident of Fairfax, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 85 years old.
Carrie was born Carrie Marie Coleman on August 8, 1940, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Scott Coleman and Julia Marie Coleman. She spent her formative years in Hominy, OK, and graduated from Hominy High School in 1958.
She met the love of her life, William “Bill” Ellis, and the couple was married on August 28, 1959. The couple made Fairfax their home and shared 56 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in April 2015. To this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Kathy and Julie.
Carrie’s career was marked by her dedication to serving others. She worked as an outreach worker at the Fairfax Senior Citizens Center, where she cared deeply about supporting members of her community. She also worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Carroll’s Chevrolet.
She was an active member of the First Christian Church. Carrie was passionate about her faith and loved helping with church outreach events, including the Easter Sunrise Breakfast and Community Thanksgiving meals.
Carrie is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Shuffield and husband Jesse of Borger, Texas, and Julie Vice and husband Allen of Claremore OK; three grandchildren, Natasha Hernandez and husband Nick, Jessica Vice, and Kayla Vice; and one great-grandchild, Lucas Hernandez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott Coleman and Julia Marie Coleman, as well as her sister, Judith Gann.
Carrie will be laid to rest next to her husband Bill in the Fairfax Cemetery and a graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, March 13. Pastor Russ Hughes will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers Carrie Ellis requests memorial contributions be made in her name to First Christian Church,152 North 4th Street, Fairfax, OK 74637.
