Ann Lockett

September 12, 1929 — July 9, 2021

Fairfax

Clyda Ann Mathis Lockett of Fairfax died on Friday, July 9, 2021, after a short illness, at the age of 91.

She was born on September 12, 1929, in Fairfax, Oklahoma, to Samuel Scott and Harriet Allen Mathis. She grew up in Fairfax and graduated from high school there in 1947, going on to get a degree in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma in 1951. She was a member of Alpha Phi sorority.

She married Jim Lockett in 1951. They moved to Victorville, CA where Jim served two years in the U.S. Air Force. In 1953 they returned to Fairfax to run the family cattle ranch. They had four children. Ann was active in PEO and served on the Fairfax Library Board and enjoyed travel with Jim in his capacity as Oklahoma Farm Bureau President.

Ann’s pleasures included the family pets, OU and OSU football and basketball, playing bridge, gardening and reading. “Manny”, as she was known by her grandkids, was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church and various Bible studies.

Ann was a gift giver. She loved others in her quiet way, though her dry sense of humor was still revealed with the occasional witty comment. She could recall and recite sports facts that most would have to Google. She was the family’s anchor in tough times and was loved by all who knew her.

Ann is survived by her daughter Jill Lockett Carey (Jim) of Tulsa, son Jeff Lockett (Shannon) of Fairfax, son James Scott Lockett (Karen) of Fairfax; grandchildren Kristin Lockett Jones, Lindsay Carey Chernosky, Will Lockett, Sam Lockett and Nicole Hubbard; great grandchildren Troy, Ben, Audrey, Elizabith, Emily, Neils, Harper, Georgiana, Lark, Lincoln, James and George; and her sister, Margaret Steinberger, of Dallas, TX. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jim and her son John.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, Fairfax, OK. Arrangements will be handled by Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home, Fairfax.
