Obituary

George Earl Weston, retired Pastor, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 after a valiant battle with failing health.  His devotion to his family and firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. He was 80 years young.

From his birth on Sunday, November 19, 1939 to his death on Wednesday he nourished people around him with his smile, joy, love, compassion, and faith.  He was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Edgar Earl and Geraldine Melody (Cox) Weston and welcomed home by sister Carolyn.  He started school close to home, moving to the farm in 3rd grade. Later, the family moved to Indiana for a few years before returning to the farm.  George completed High School at Copan, Okla., graduating in 1958.

On August 11, 1961 he married his forever love and favorite school teacher, Miss Janice I. O’Neil in Dewey, Okla.  He went on to graduate from the Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri with a Master’s Degree in Theology and accepted a position at Galesburg, Kansas.  George served his first congregation for over three years.  During this time, the couple was blessed with a daughter, Jennifer and a son, Andrew completed the family.

Together over the last 58 years, he and Jan raised their children with patience, discipline and humility. George was an educator and mentor at heart.  He was kind, soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small.  He encouraged his children to explore the beauty of the gospels, leading his son, Andy, to become a pastor for a time.

In 1966, George accepted the call to his second church, First Christian Church in Fairfax.  Little did anyone realize he would spend a lifetime serving his Lord through his dedication to his congregation and his new hometown.

We know what a great man he was in his love of God and people. Ordinarily, a Pastor spends endless hours at church camp, visiting the sick, witnessing to individuals, baptisms, marriages, funerals, and preparing sermons.  George didn’t stop thereāŽÆhe was one of the community’s greatest assets.

He was an active member of many organizations, served on several boards, held multiple offices, and participated in many committees.  We hope to list most of them here, if you find something we missed please overlook it, we know George would.
