Arnoldina Vanden Berg, better known as Dina, was born in Badhoevedorp, Netherlands in 1932 to John and Marina Van Hanja. There with her three brothers she grew up, went to school, and even survived the Nazi occupation. After High school Dina went on to school to become a nurse.

It was during her younger teen years that Dina first became acquainted with Richard, after receiving a thank you card for the care package sent along with her classmates, to the orphans in Indonesia. Dina and Richard became pen pals and wrote for years until one day Richard showed up at her front door. There was an instant attraction because. Well, to put it in her own words, “He was so brown and handsome, what was I to do?”

Eventually Richard and Dina married on January 23, 1959. They had a daughter, Jolanda before deciding to immigrate to the United States less than two years later. Only, Richard didn’t tell her he had applied until after they got accepted .Though she was a bit unsure about leaving her homeland she courageously joined her husband and moved to New York State. Within 5 years they were able to save enough money to buy their first home in Victor, NY where they raised their four children Jolanda, Lillian, Richard and Evelyn. Eventually Richard retired and in 1993 they decided to move to the Fairfax, Oklahoma area.

Dina was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She had a strong faith and devotion to Jehovah God and his son Christ Jesus. She enjoyed sharing her faith and teaching others in the community about the Bible’s wonderful promises for the future, especially the hope of the earth being restored to a paradise, where man will live in perfect health and happiness forever. Dina loved her children, extended family and great grandchildren very much. She always stayed in touch by calling, sending letters, cards and care packages to the far away family. She also loved doing puzzles, knitting, caring for her home and pets.

Dina leaves behind her daughters Jolanda and Bernie Bain of Fairfax, OK; Lillian and Tony Yacuzzo of Prattsburgh, NY; son Richard and Brianna Vanden Berg of Lebanon, Me; son-in-law Robert Bays of Ponca City, OK; Fourteen grand children; four great grand children; brothers Tony and Mary-Ann Van Hanja and John and Alice Van Hanja; Gary Van Hanja, along with numerous extended family and friends.

Dina was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard, her daughter Evelyn Bays and her great-grand daughter Deunan Bouchard.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday December 1, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 915 N Birch Ponca City, OK.
