Bernard Leroy Goad

Ralston: Bernard Leroy Goad passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at his longtime home in Sunny Slope near Ralston. He was 91. Bernard was born June 20, 1920 near Newkirk, Oklahoma, the son of Grover Cleveland Goad and Mary Ellen (Shaw) Goad.

He received his early education at the one room Woodland School in The Big Bend community West of Ralston. He and Berta Plummer married on May 25, 1942 at Newkirk. In their early marriage they lived in The Big Bend then moved to Sunny Slope where he farmed & ranched. In his later years, he worked for Tim Drummond Ranch's farming operation until his retirement in his late 80's. The couple had been married 66 years at the time of Mrs. Goad's death 3 1/2 years ago.

The couple had two daughters, Sue & Dixie, and cared for granddaughter, Jill, throughout her teenage years.Bernard was instrumental in starting the Ralston Homecoming Parade and Celebration 60 years ago, now held each Labor Day. He served on the boards of the Federal Land Bank, FHA, Ralston Farmers Co-Op, and ASC Board.

Bernard was a member of First Osage Baptist Church in Fairfax where he greeted and hugged everyone at the door on Sunday mornings for 30 years. He greatly enjoyed his family and friends and loved to visit and play cards with the Ralston Co-Op Group.

He is survived by daughter, Sue Scott & husband John, of Tulsa; grandchildren Jill Watson & husband Ray, of Dallas, Carmen Kraft & husband Jeff, of Bixby and Mark Brown & wife Heather, of Fairfax; 11 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchil-dren and by his loving companion and caregiver, Lula Bonner and special friends Audrey & Richard Oder of Tulsa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Berta Goad, daughter Dixie Brown, granddaugh-ter-in-law, Gina Brown, his parents and 7 siblings.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the First Osage Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Taylor presiding. Burial will follow in the Ralston Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.

Casket bearers are Tim Kill, Tim Drummond, Jim Hadlock, Ulis Keeling, David Goad and Bill Brown.
